Do you feel as if all the changes are a little too much for you? I do. How do I keep going when the world is in such chaos? We keep on, keeping on. How? Here’s my “solution:”
- Choose one thing to do, something you have control over.
- Execute something against that goal. (For me, that’s writing, both nonfiction and fiction. You might also choose some form of societal activism. I am handicapped, so it’s not safe for me to be physically out there.)
- Assess your progress.
- Learn from that.
- Choose your next step, based on what you learned.
We can only control our own lives. We can influence people who are willing to extend us a little trust. If you’re like me, you have much larger areas of concern.
Do what you can to keep going. That often means starting with yourself. Remember what they say on planes? Put your own mask on before helping others.
Then, find something that allows you to make progress. That progress will help you feel resilient. Resilience helps you generate more options. Those options allow you to adapt.
Yes, it’s a circle of small steps, just like the influence circles.
We can worry, but worry does not allow us to keep on keeping on. Instead, find something to do. Keep your steps small and keep going. Learn.
One step at a time. Repeat. Learn. That’s how we keep on keeping on. And find ways out of our chaos.
